COP29 Azerbaijan

Climate warning

COP29 climate summit host Azerbaijan defends oil and gas investments.

Azerbaijan, host of this year's U.N. climate summit, will defend the right of oil and gas producing nations to invest in the sector, the country's president said on Friday, noting that despite climate targets, fossil fuel demand remains strong.
As the host of the United Nations COP29 climate summit in November, Azerbaijan will oversee negotiations among nearly 200 countries on how to raise more finance to combat climate change and reduce the greenhouse gas emissions heating the planet.

He shouldn't be hosting Cop29 in yhe first place, what progress do we expect from a leader like him?? , leaders should lead by example and not pulling the efforts to end fossil fuel down

@rukia_ahmed_abdi The kind of impunity we've had to bear from both this and last years hosts call to question the criteria in selecting them as hosts for such a crucial climate summit.

This is ridiculous ... The UN should reconsider Azerbaijan being the Host of COP 29 as what they stand for is contrary to the goals of COP

Why would they allow him to host cop 29 with the kind of mindset he has?

This suggests a disconnect between their climate commitments and fossil fuel promotion. As the host of a critical climate summit, His move appears to undermine the urgency of transitioning away from fossil fuels. This stance may undermine the urgency of climate action discussed at the summit.

True climate leadership means investing in a cleaner, greener future for all. It's disheartening to see Azerbaijan, the host of COP29, defend oil and gas investments despite the urgent need to transition away from fossil fuels.

Talk about hypocrisy! How can we expect any meaningful progress on climate change when the host country is openly advocating for more fossil fuel production?
