The global biodiversity crisis is reaching alarming levels, with thousands of species facing existential threats and essential ecosystems like forests and coral reefs rapidly declining. This poses a significant risk to humanity, as 1.2 billion people rely on nature for their basic needs, and over half of the world's GDP depends on its services.
Fortunately, there is action being taken. Led by China, the world has adopted the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF), outlining a plan to safeguard biodiversity and consequently, ourselves. We express gratitude to China for its leadership and collaboration with UNEP in launching the Kunming Biodiversity Fund, a vital initiative to ensure the effective implementation of biodiversity protection measures.
The establishment of this fund, jointly chaired by China and UNEP, is essential as the success of any plan relies on adequate resources for implementation. To maximize impact, a comprehensive approach involving all sectors of society and government is crucial. The involvement of UN agencies, with the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity and the UN Development Programme as founding partners, demonstrates the commitment to supporting developing countries in achieving a sustainable future for both people and nature.
Active engagement of local communities who rely on and interact with nature is essential, ensuring they reap equitable benefits from its sustainable use. Additionally, concerted action across key sectors such as food, agriculture, and extractive industries is imperative. Encouraging public and private partners to contribute to the fund is vital for its growth and effectiveness.
Investing in nature through initiatives like the GBF and the newly established Fund is not only environmentally responsible but also economically savvy. Nature serves as the foundation of our economies, and preserving it ensures sustainable growth and prosperity for all. By prioritizing sustainable and equitable use of nature, we pave the way towards a brighter future for humanity.

The Kunming Biodiversity Fund aims to tackle the biodiversity crisis, supporting conservation and sustainable use of ecosystems. This initiative is crucial for maintaining biodiversity, protecting vital ecosystems, and ensuring long-term ecological balance. This plan is critical to how safe our biodiversity will be in future and hence it is necessary to ensure it's success. We have to thank the organisers for coming up with it.

@walter_lungayi Our main prayer is the funds that come from this project are well utilised and that the goals set when this was started can be achieved to the letter. The management of the project and it's funding has to take center stage
