UNDP recognises that Small Island Developing Nations needs are high on the climate agenda

Small Island Developing Nations (SIDS) run a high risk of succumbing to climate changes, if nothing is done at the earliest. SIDS are small island developing nations which might have the capability to fend for themselves but are not rich enough to stop the effects of climate change on their own.
What can we do to save small island nations?
What can we do to save small island nations?

They are not too poor to need aid and finance but are powerless to stop any climate disaster by themselves. A major climate mishap like a hurricane or drought can set these countries' development back by 5-10 years, and maybe erase some of them from the face of the map altogether. All in all, these countries are in for both fiscal and climate shocks. This issue will be a major point of discussion at the fourth UN Conference that will be held in Antigua and Barbuda from May 27-May 30, 2024. The draft document for the UN conference states, “The next ten years are critical for SIDS”. Achim Steiner, head of the UN Development Program (UNDP), told AFP. "The harsh truth is for these countries, climate change is already a reality. Because of their smallness as economies... one extreme weather event can literally throw a country back 5-10 years in its development."
