South Korea recycles 98% of its food waste

South Korea is leading the way in addressing food waste and promoting environmental sustainability!
The country now recycles 98% of its food waste and transforms it into compost, animal feed, and renewable energy. This impressive achievement is thanks to a nationwide system that requires residents to separate food waste from their regular trash.
Facilities like the Daejeon Bioenergy Center play an important role in this success. They process over 400 tons of food waste daily and convert it into enough renewable and green energy to power approximately 20,000 households, reducing methane emissions.
Although there are challenges ahead, such as improving waste sorting and reducing overall food waste, South Korea's innovative approach offers a powerful lesson for the world in combating climate change and protecting the environment.
