Parisians have voted to introduce higher SUV parking fees

Update: The results of the vote are out and Parisians have voted in favour of tripling parking costs for SUVs.

What if bigger, more polluting cars paid more for parking? It sounds logical, right? To combat the challenges posed by oversized and polluting SUVs, Paris is organising a local votation on February 4. The focus of this vote is a proposal regarding the introduction of specialised parking fees targeted at heavy vehicles within the city.
Despite Paris actively working to reduce individual car usage over the past decade, the surge in popularity of SUVs, constituting 40% of recent sales, has ignited concerns about pollution, safety, and the fair use of public spaces.

The heart of the matter lies in a question that Parisians will answer through their votes: "For or against the creation of a specific fee for the parking of heavy, bulky, and polluting individual cars?" This referendum reflects the city's attempt to balance urban mobility with environmental and safety considerations. With SUVs becoming omnipresent on Parisian streets, the vote on February 4 will determine the city's stance on these vehicles and their impact on the urban landscape.
Paris aims to address these concerns by proposing the creation of a dedicated parking fee for heavy, polluting, and bulky vehicles, specifically targeting SUVs. The suggested measure involves tripling visitor parking fees for these vehicles, setting rates that vary from 18 euros per hour in Paris Center to 12 euros per hour from Paris 12th to Paris 20th.
As Parisians head to the polls, their choices can shape the city's approach to curbing the impact of SUVs on the French capital! 👏 Exciting!

Excellent move Paris! Of course more polluting taking up more space should pay more.

This is very much welcomed. SUVs are generally heavier and contribute more to air pollution than smaller cars.

This move by Paris could help reduce congestion and encourage the use of more sustainable transportation options.

The idea of introducing SUV parking fees in Paris is a commendable effort to incentivize individuals to choose more sustainable modes of transportation. SUVs have higher carbon emissions than smaller cars.

This is a great regulation that will go a long way in reducing pollution and keeping the cities clean by limiting movement of heavy cars in Paris.

@petter in this case it will be determined by the weight of the cars
