We often hear warnings that there is a lot of environmental pollution. This raises questions such as "Is pollution everywhere?" And "How bad is the pollution in different areas?"
To get answers to these questions, we need a way to analyze the level of pollution and the impact on ecosystems.
Here, biomarkers or bioindicators can be used. These are biological responses used to identify a particular process, disease, pollutant, etc.
Assessing the level of pollution in the environment can be done directly by measuring pollution in soil, air, or water; or indirectly in our or other animals' bodies.
These three types of biomarkers tell us whether and how badly we polluted the environment:
1. Biomarkers of exposure
2. Biomarkers of susceptibility
3. Biomarkers of effect
