Kenya takes significant step forward in climate change education as Alef Education, KICD, and UNICEF sign MOU.

Alef Education, the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), and UNICEF have signed an MOU to incorporate climate change education into Kenya's public school curriculum. This partnership aims to equip students and educators with knowledge and skills to tackle the climate crisis through the Kenya Education Cloud platform. The initiative will develop and deliver comprehensive climate education that integrates with KICD's existing curriculum.

Prof. Charles Ochieng Ong'ondo of KICD emphasized the need for relevant educational content to prepare learners for environmental challenges. Alef Education will provide high-quality digital content, including videos, quizzes, and interactive materials on carbon literacy. Geoffrey Alphonso of Alef Education highlighted the role of technology in empowering students to address climate change and foster a sustainable future. Shaheen Nilofer of UNICEF stressed the importance of equipping children, especially those in vulnerable areas, with the tools to become change agents for a resilient Kenya.

The collaboration aims to continuously enhance the climate education initiative, making it accessible nationwide and aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 13: Climate Action. The MOU signing ceremony included representatives from various Kenyan ministries and international partners, marking a significant step toward a greener and more resilient Kenya.
