Our #OceanAnimalOfTheMonth for July is the Idiomysis Shrimp, a tiny crustacean with a big personality! 🦐🌊
These mini marvels, measuring just 3-5 mm in length, inhabit warm, shallow waters around the world, including in Australia, Japan, East Africa, Egypt, and Indonesia.
Idiomysis shrimp are highly social creatures, often found in groups of 5 to 40. But this behaviour isn't just for fun; it's a clever survival strategy. Their small size and vibrant colour make them easy prey, so they find safety in numbers which helps them stay well camouflaged and communicate easily.
Fast facts about the Idiomysis Shrimp:
🌈 Come in vivid colours: yellow, purple, and red
🔍 Notoriously hard to spot
🌏 Wide distribution but still relatively elusive
