The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the World Bank (WB), and the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) are expanding efforts to increase transparency in food systems financing. This collaboration, launched at COP29, will scale the Financial Flows to Food Systems (3FS) tool, which tracks investments in food systems transformation, across 11 countries. The tool provides critical data on public and private sector financing, enabling better decision-making to address financial gaps and ensure sustainable, equitable, and resilient food systems globally.
By offering a clearer picture of resource allocation, the 3FS tool helps stakeholders from local governments to international agencies improve investment strategies. This transparency also supports national efforts to address food security challenges and attract more international support for transformative action. The expanded use of the tool will play a key role in mobilizing the necessary funds for transitioning to high-performing food systems.
The partnership between IFAD, the WB, and GAIN, supported by other organizations like the Asian Development Bank (ADB), underscores the importance of collaboration to close financing gaps. Understanding the intersection of diverse financing sources, public, private, and philanthropic, is crucial for scaling up food systems transformation. The 3FS initiative is vital for accelerating progress and achieving systemic change as the world works toward more sustainable and inclusive food systems.
