Germany to end e-vehicle subsidy programme

Germany's electrical vehicle subsidy programme will end prematurely on Monday after paying out some 10 billion euros since 2016, the Economics Ministry said, the latest sign of belt-tightening following the adoption of a revised 2024 budget this week. This comes after the new budget had to be slimmed down after a ruling by Germany's constitutional court that blew a 60 billion euro ($65.36 billion) in the country's state budget and forced the government to shelve some programmes designed to speed up Germany's green transition. This is a sudden stop to the e-car subsidy which was originally intended to apply until the end of 2024. Subsidies already applied for will be paid out but no new applicants will be accepted from Monday. This greatly affects EVs sales and plunges the numbers which means a maintained sale of fossil powered vehicles in Germany will rise.

This is a decision that should have been communicated to all stake holders and not just ended abruptly

@Kevin Such subsidies should not even put to a stop if we really need to change the transport sector to more sustainable one.

It's bad decision which will paralyze the need for adoption of electric vehicles

Germany is ending its electric vehicle subsidy program earlier than planned, with the program closing on Monday, marking a sudden stop to incentives designed to boost the adoption of electric cars. The decision follows belt-tightening measures and budget constraints, including a constitutional court ruling that impacted Germany's state budget, leading to the discontinuation of some programs aimed at accelerating the country's green transition. Subsidies already approved will be honored, but no new applications will be accepted starting Monday.

Ending the subsidy might dampen e-vehicle demand, potentially slowing down Germany's progress towards its ambitious electrification targets. I really hope they rethink this stance.

@george_kariuki Ending the subsidy could indeed have an impact on e-vehicle demand, potentially hindering Germany's advancement toward ambitious electrification goals.

Ending subsidy on electric vehicles is simply encouraging fossil fuels that they should be avoiding

@johnte_ndeto Ending the subsidy on electric vehicles might inadvertently encourage the use of fossil fuels, counteracting the shift towards cleaner energy sources.

This decision may slow down the adoption of electric vehicles in Germany, but it could also push manufacturers to innovate and make electric vehicles more affordable without subsidies.

What!they should give a chance for EVs,they should not ban this subsidies so as to ensure people are more encouraged to transit, they should ensure they are helping in this journey of transition.
