Texas got more electricity from solar than coal last month!

Image of post in post detailed view

For the first time ever, solar energy has outpaced coal-fired generation for an entire month, marking a monumental shift in the Texas power landscape.
🔥💨 Despite being known for its traditional reliance on coal and fossil gas, Texas has seen a remarkable surge in clean energy adoption. Over the past decade, wind and solar have surged while coal's contribution has plummeted. Last year, coal only managed to supply 14% of ERCOT generation, slipping below 10% this March.
💡🍃 The rise of clean energy in Texas isn't just about environmental consciousness – it's about economics and opportunity. With fewer barriers to entry in the ERCOT grid, developers have embraced low-cost clean energy technologies, leveraging the state's vast wind and sunshine resources.
🌍💚 As Texas moves towards a cleaner energy future, it sends ripples across the nation, putting pressure on coal suppliers and highlighting the undeniable shift towards sustainability and innovation.

Hopefully this Republican heartland will see the benefits of green energy and the climate agenda won't be a politically divisive issue...

@princess_nel_268 Precisely. It would be catastrophic if Texas was to fall back into production of coal power in higher numbers than solar power in future. Once they've achieved this milestone, there's no going back

@walter_lungayi One could also argue that is should be a turning point not only for Texas but for other states as well. A clear show of how things should run from here henceforth without looking back to the dark days of fossil power
