Efforts to Make Ecocide an International Criminal Law

Ecocide is destruction of the natural environment by deliberate or negligent human action. This is something all the big polluters do. If Ecocide is criminalised i.e. recognised as an international crime then it will be very beneficial for all life forms, environment & biodiversity. It will legally bind all the polluters, its financers, politicians and governments who back such activities to change their ways. Watch this short video to know why is it so important to make ecocide an international crime! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BftYb3G52og Speaker in this video is Jojo Mehta who co-founded Stop Ecocide in 2017, alongside barrister and legal pioneer the late Polly Higgins, to support the establishment of ecocide as a crime at the International Criminal Court. She is Chair of the charitable Stop Ecocide Foundation and convenor of the Independent Expert Panel for the Legal Definition of Ecocide. This initiative is gaining rapid momentum since the emergence of the legal definition of ecocide (https://www.stopecocide.earth/legal-definition) in June of this year, drafted by an independent expert panel of top lawyers from around the world and convened by our Foundation. With 15+ member states of the International Criminal Court addressing it at parliamentary or government level, this conversation is only set to get louder. For a succinct update and understanding of our work please watch this short video I was invited to record for the Commonwealth Law Conference last week: https://youtu.be/NqNozrLXapc

I agree wholeheartedly, but I think unfortunately it will never happen. Those powerful and rich who are making the ecocides are so powerful that control everything including courts, in fact they've made the courts to rule their laws. In another words, they would be punishing themselves which is nonsense.
