Shell’s board of directors sued over flawed climate strategy in first-of-its-kind lawsuit
Non-profit law firm Client Earth has personally sued Shell's directors over its flawed climate strategy.
The lawsuit, which has the support of many of Shell's current shareholders, states that the company's strategy and actions doesn't fit with its stated objective to reach net zero by 2050. According to the lawsuit, not only is Shell not following its commitment to the Paris Accords, but it also acts against the interests of its shareholders by running a high risk of being left behind as the world transitions from fossil fuels to renewable energy.
This is only the latest in a series of lawsuits and investigations against Shell, as non-profit Global Witness had recently released a damning report against the company's greenwashing efforts, as seen here:
