Green roofs make a city more sustainable and resilient

The number of people living in cities has increased significantly in the last few decades, with two out of three people living in a city by 2050.

To make urbanization possible, the environment needs to change, which often means that greenery is replaced by man-made structures.

This affects the ecological balance, so technical solutions such as green roofs have been developed to help restore this balance. A green roof is a roof with a layer of plants, a layer of soil, a fabric that filters water, a drainage layer, and a protective covering for the building. 

Although the thickness of the soil layer limits the root length and determines which type of plants can be grown, green roofs in general benefit cities in many ways, for example cooling the city down.
