Europe unprepared for rapidly growing climate risks, report shows

A report by European Environment Agency (EEA) has revealed that Europe is not prepared for the rapidly growing climate risks it faces, which includes Dangers of wildfires, extreme weather and other factors. “Our new analysis shows that Europe faces urgent climate risks that are growing faster than our societal preparedness,” said Leena Ylä-Mononen, the EEA’s executive director. As documented in the report this climate risk factors needs urgent actions. The study underscores that the most pressing risks includes fossil fuel pollution heats the planet – are heat stress, flash floods and river floods, the health of coastal and marine ecosystems, and the need for solidarity funds to recover from disasters. The researchers who reassessed six of the risks for southern Europe, which they described as a “hotspot” region, found urgent action was also needed to keep crops safe and to protect people, buildings and nature from wildfires. There is increasing evidence of adaptation but “it’s certainly not enough”, said Robbert Biesbroek, a report author from Wageningen University, who also co-led the chapter on Europe in the latest Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report on adaptation. “It’s not going quickly enough and it’s not reaching the ones that need it most,” he said. “It’s quite scary in that sense.” As the EU is set to respond to this shocking research, the globe is all ears to understand the situation from their side and the working policy on how to protect the environment and the wellbeing of the people. This hail for a serious action to be taken and still extensive game plan needed to assuage the impact of climate change in Europe. Europe should depict a smart picture to developing countries in other continents.

Europe as a whole has to put strategies and policies in place that will enable them to prevent or curb the impact that climate change has on its people and ecosystem... more investment is needed in strengthening its climate change resilience

@edwin_wangombe I agree, European authorities has to sit and take this challange head on by creating a mechanism to stop this catastrophe from hitting Europe.

I do not understand how the European Union always has money to find other projects within and outside Europe including charities but when it comes to making the real commitments and acting on climate change, they suddenly start dilly dallying. Their preparedness to deal with catastrophies arising from climate change events is horrendous and they can and should do better

@munene_mugambi the EU must set their priorities rights and commit to take care of this region's environment.
