Petronas signs up Shell among others in five new offshore oil exploration blocks.

Malaysia's Petronas has signed production sharing contracts (PSCs) for five offshore exploration blocks, namely SB412, 2W, and X located off the coast of Sabah, and SK439/SK440 situated off the coast of Sarawak. Significantly, Shell has signed up for ultra-deepwater exploration acreage. The PSC signing ceremony for blocks awarded in Malaysia Bid Round (MBR) 2021 took place on Tuesday at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. Block SB412 in Sabah was signed between PETRONAS, PTTEP HK Offshore Limited and SapuraOMV Upstream (M) Sdn Bhd, while the PSCs for ultra-deepwater Blocks 2W and X were signed between PETRONAS, Sabah Shell Petroleum Company Ltd., Shell Sabah Selatan Sdn Bhd and PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd. The PSC for Sarawak’s Block SK439/SK440 was signed between PETRONAS, Sarawak Shell Berhad and Petroleum Sarawak Exploration & Production Sdn Bhd. Petronas is pleased that the newly signed PSCs would attract a capital commitment of about RM600 million ($142 million) in exploration activities in Malaysia, reflecting the attractiveness of Malaysia’s hydrocarbon resources potential,” said Petronas senior vice president of Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM), Mohamed Firouz Asnan. https://www.energyvoice.com/oilandgas/asia/397763/shell-snaps-up-deep-water-exploration-acreage-in-malaysia/

Why can't people understand that we need to shift away from fossil fuels!

It buffles me how ignorant and egocentric a few parties are. They lack regard for human and nature rights.Moreso they turn a deaf ear and burry our concerns behind their minds and put 💰 first.

Just saw “Small Island Big Song”, a multi-media including a band of live extraordinary musicians and a poet from Islands of the South Pacific and Indian Ocean. Behind them is a film with scenes from life in the Islands and the surrounding oceans. A deeply moving experience and highly recommended to anyone who gets the chance to go. And then the next morning to be confronted with news such as this about the Shell purchasing rights for deep water oil exploration off Malaysia! I had the thought before I read about this Shell/ Malaysia, that while we feel (rightly) so outraged about what Putin is doing quickly to Ukraine, WE, with our petro-plastic powered lifestyles are doing to those who live on or near the oceans. We are also doing this, at a slower rate, to ourselves and our children through our high-consumption, petrochemical-dependent lifestyles coupled with exploding populations of humans. The deeper I go into learning about the crisis we are in the more certain my conclusion that the corrupting force of greed unleashed by unregulated/ under-regulated Capitalism, is dooming our species and life on Earth in the not-too-distant future. We have the technology to get off fossil fuels. This will also require mining and securing resources that will be acquired through exploitative methods. UNDER THE CURRENT CAPITALIST MODEL! We need to have the courage, imagination and faith in the value of a peaceful world where human beings don’t predate on each other and instead assist each other to live in dignity, peace and in harmony with the natural world of which we are a part and RELIANT UPON.
