The European Parliament and the Council of the EU, which serves EU member states, agreed that by 2030, the 27-country bloc would source 42.5% of its energy from renewable sources like wind and solar, with a potential increase to 45%.The EU wants 32% green energy by 2030. In 2021, green energy provided 22% of the bloc's energy. Sweden has 63% green energy, while Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, and Ireland use less than 13%. The EU must rapidly switch to green energy to meet its climate goals, including a legally binding goal to cut planet-heating gases by 55% by 2030 from 1990 levels.
Since Russia invaded Ukraine, renewable energy goals are important. The EU aims to stop using Russian fossil fuels by 2027, mostly using locally produced, low-carbon energy.

I love what the EU is doing. The commitment raises so much hope in solving the crisis and achieving the target goals.

"papier ist geduldig" and the fossil industry has an army of lobbyists and a lot of money to spend for political parties and influential politicians. Politicians are comparatively cheap.
