Post 875: New Year's Day. Tons of champagne bottles may have been popped last night, but it's the sustainability of cork oak trees that is worth celebrating.
.
Fact: Cork oak trees that have been harvested absorb 3 to 5 times more carbon than unharvested trees. The trees don't need to be cut down in order to be harvested (instead, their bark is carefully stripped off), but as it regrows, the tree takes in more carbon to fuel a quicker comeback. Cork trees can also live for up to 200 years, meaning that each tree can be harvested up to 15 times!

As it is the New Year - we also just sent out our New Year's Pixel Planet Today newsletter! In it, we go over updates on the project, post highlights, and of course, our New Year Resolutions (including making a Twitter account, hitting Day 1000, and a few other goals). If you aren't yet subscribed, we'd love if you headed over to our website and gave it a go😊. As we have done with the previous newsletters, we're also going to be taking a short break (three days) from the daily posts. We'll still be working on the project, just in a behind-the-scenes kind of way. 😉❤🌎
