Trees are dying at increasing rates in forests across Europe
Annual mortality rates are rising for all major tree species in Europe, which means forests will soak up less carbon and wildfire risks will increase
A Europe-wide study has found that the drying out of soils across the continent as the planet heats up is leading to the deaths of more and more trees.
“European forests are suffering,” says Jan-Peter George at Tartu Observatory in Estonia. “It needs to be made clear to everyone in Europe, regardless of whether you are in the north or the south, that this will become a huge problem.”

Sadly, I feel like this is something I can witness when I go around in the forest here :( more and more trees seem to be falling when the weather is a bit windy for example.

Are there available solutions to this? Or is it inevitable and non preventable?

Great question. Same issues faced in the West coast of the U.S. ravaged by wild fires. It's systematic.

@AstorPerkins I emailed the researcher and he said he would update us on progress of the solutions. They said one of their current challenges is reaching landowners to get them to transition to adaptive forest management.

@connor_lascelles thanks for your proactivity. It's the unfortunate nature of humanity to wait until it's too late. Why would they as the landowners wait til their land is burned to a crisp. The need to change human psyche.
And together we've planted over 150,000 trees. One tree is planted for every climate review written to an organization that is Open for Climate Dialogue™.
How does this work?
