After 15 years – UN Agreement To Protect our Oceans
Finally it seems like the countries of the world have reached an agreement to protect our deep seas! Our oceans face threats such as overfishing, pollution, and climate change. Only 1 percent of the deep sea is currently being protected. The new agreement says 30 percent of the earth's surface on land and at sea should be protected. This could make it possible to introduce large marine nature reserves. – This is a historic day for conservation and a sign that in a divided world, protecting nature and people can triumph over geopolitics, says Laura Meller from Greenpeace.
