One of Europe's biggest innovation challenges for energy and climate, Startup 4 Climate, celebrates its five-year anniversary and has grown bigger than ever. After last year's record year, the competition is once again open for applications where the best, most innovative ideas with the greatest potential for scalability and climate benefit win.
Last year was a record year for the competition with 75 registered companies and over 8,200 participants in "The People's Voice". And now it's time again. Two million SEK is up for grabs for young companies that convince the renowned jury of groundbreaking ideas for energy transition and tangible climate benefit.
- Startup 4 Climate has grown bigger every year and plays an important role for innovative, new companies with climate and energy ideas, both in Sweden and internationally. We want to find and highlight smart entrepreneurs with technical solutions that help us leave fossil fuels and energy waste behind, says Johan Lindehag, CEO of Ellevio, jury member and one of the founders of Startup 4 Climate.
The competition is aimed at Swedish startups and entrepreneurs who have developed innovations that can accelerate the energy transition. This can happen, for example, through products or services that reduce emissions of greenhouse gases, make energy use more efficient or change people's behaviour.
The winners of the 2023 competition, the startup companies Cemvision and Novige, convinced the jury with fossil-free, circular and energy-efficient cement and a combined wave, solar and wind Informationsklass: Öppen power solution, respectively. Two revolutionary contributions to the energy transition and climate work.
- In addition to the prize money, Startup 4 Climate can give your company a real boost. Look at Flower, for example, they won the competition, got Ellevio and Stefan Krook's company as co-owners and have recently bought the country's largest battery park, says Maria Erdmann, CEO of GodEl and co-founder of Startup 4 Climate.
- Searching does not take too many minutes and can be time well invested. Something we like to highlight is the importance of diversity on all levels. So do not think you need to be in the electricit industry – the competition is open to all companies that influence the energy transition, adds Maria Erdmann.
New for this year is that an alumni network is being started for all finalists and winners over the years. The aim is to create a platform for cooperation, exchange of experience and wider contacts.
