Post 956: March 26th, 2022. 8:30pm today (your respective local time) is set aside for one of the largest environmental movements in the world: Earth Hour. While shutting off your lights for a mere hour may not be as helpful to the planet as quitting fossil fuels or going vegan, the movement is about more than just energy savings.
.
Earth Hour, since its conception in 2007, has led to multiple environmental projects blossoming into reality. In 2013, WWF Uganda created the world's first Earth Hour Forest. The area, around 2,700 hectares of degraded land, was also set to be the new home for 500,000 trees. Argentina has also taken real action in light of the movement, passing bills that added more than 3.4 million hectares to its marine protected areas.
.
Earth Hour events take place all around the world, but you can also celebrate from the comfort of your own home. Read up on what's happening across our planet, watch a nature documentary, or even browse old Pixel Planet Today posts. 😉
.
P.S. We're also sending out our Spring Newsletter tomorrow, so if you aren't already signed up to receive those updates, you should have plenty of time to sign up during the hour. ❤️🌎

I took part by at least turning off the lights and also informed and asked a few more people to observe too.Just hope we made a difference.

Taking part is the difference that matters. It shows that you are able to take an hour out of your day to show that the climate crisis is really that: a crisis 🌎✊
And together we've planted over 150,000 trees. One tree is planted for every climate review written to an organization that is Open for Climate Dialogue™.
How does this work?
