Kenyan government to embrace green energy to lower electricity and fuel costs

Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary (CS) Davis Chirchir said that his ministry was working tirelessly to ensure costs dropped. CS Chirchir added that the government is investing in renewable energy sources that incorporate green energy. “We are tremendously ahead compared to the rest of the world in terms of renewable energy and climate change,” Chirchir said during the graduation ceremony of 592 graduates from the Institute of Energy Studies and Research that the country has 93 percent renewable energy. Chirchir attributed the high cost of fuel levied on motorists to non-renewable energy sources, mainly fossil fuels. “Renewable energy comes at a quite affordable cost. What makes our fuels expensive is renewable energy, “added the CS. Chirchir subsequently stated that the government has plans to retire the use of fossil fuels in the country as they are not only hazardous to the environment but also expensive. The remarks by the cabinet secretary come at a time when the country is preparing to host the Africa Energy Forum, which seeks to have conversations on how to depart from fossil fuels and make green energy the new frontier on the continent. https://www.capitalfm.co.ke/business/2023/06/govt-seeks-to-cut-high-power-fuel-prices-using-green-energy/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
