Climate Climbers: Scaling Summits and Sharing Organic Snacks in 2023

Image of post in post detailed view

Hey, climate warriors! Grab your reusable sporks, refill your reusable canteens (ditch the plastic, y'all!), and gather around. It's that time of year – annual check-in time! We've weathered some storms (literally and metaphorically), scaled mountains of challenges, and planted seeds of hope in the face of a sometimes-bleak landscape. So, let's take a moment, ditch the FOMO, and celebrate our collective climate wins, spills, and everything in between.

Who aced their carbon footprint ninja training and swapped gas guzzlers for e-bikes? Who planted enough trees to start their own tiny forest? Did anyone finally convince their grandma to compost (grandma kudos for you!)? Share your victories, big and small! We need to hear them. Each step, each win, no matter how seemingly insignificant, is a ripple in the eco-pond, sending positive vibes across the planet.

But let's be real, it wasn't all sunshine and solar panels. We stumbled, we sweated, we probably shed a tear or two watching glaciers melt faster than our ice pops in this heatwave. We learned (sometimes the hard way) that fossil fuel giants have thicker skin than rhinos, and that politicians' climate promises can be flimsier than tissue paper in a downpour. But guess what? We learned, we adapted, and we kept climbing. Because that's what climate warriors do.

This year, the climate movement felt different. More diverse, more connected, more…hungry. Hungry for change, hungry for justice, hungry for a planet where polar bears don't need swim lessons and beaches aren't littered with plastic straws. We saw youth activists rise like volcanic eruptions, demanding action with voices louder than leaf blowers. We saw indigenous communities, the original environmental guardians, lead the way with ancient wisdom and unwavering resilience. We saw scientists, artists, and even comedians using their superpowers to fight the good fight.

So, as we celebrate the year's victories (and mourn the setbacks, because even superheroes need therapy sessions), let's remember this: the climate fight is a marathon, not a sprint. There will be hills, there will be headwinds, there will be moments when we want to curl up in a ball and binge-watch climate documentaries. But remember, there's a whole army of climate climbers out there, sharing Sherpa snacks of encouragement, cheering each other on, and planting hope along the way. We're in this together, and together, we will climb.

Now, let's raise our reusable mugs (filled with fair-trade, organic, locally-sourced kombucha, of course) to a year of climate action, both personal and global. Cheers to the victories, cheers to the lessons learned, and cheers to the incredible, messy, beautiful journey that is the fight for our planet. As Mahatma Gandhi might have said (if he was really into kombucha), "Be the change you want to see in the climate, my friends. And don't forget the reusable sporks!
