Water extraction and weight of buildings see half of China's cities sink

Groundwater-related subsidence is the subsidence (or the sinking) of land resulting from unsustainable groundwater extraction. It is a growing problem in the developing world as cities increase in population and water use, without adequate pumping regulation and enforcement.

This is very sad and devastating. How do they stop this from occuring in future? China can implement stricter regulations on groundwater extraction, invest in sustainable water management practices, and prioritize urban planning that considers the impact of building weight on land subsidence.

@joseph_githinji Authorities in all countries and not just developing countries, plus I wouldn't consider China a developing country really. It's just lax policies that have led this to happen and it should be handled immediately

@ke_vermeer_xie That's quite sad and hopefully you and your loved ones are well and accounted for. We can only pray that other buildings in the city are up to standard and this doesn't happen again.
