COP16: Ambitious $125B Fund to Protect Tropical Forests

At COP16 in Colombia, the Tropical Forest Finance Facility (TFFF) was introduced as a groundbreaking initiative aimed at raising $125 billion to protect tropical forests.

This innovative fund will reward nations for reducing deforestation through a results-based income stream, similar to a bond fund. By leveraging investments from sovereign entities and philanthropies, TFFF aims to create a sustainable financial model that values forests for their ecosystem services 🌳

Stringent penalties for deforestation and transparent governance are key components, potentially transforming conservation finance and supporting over 70 tropical nations in preserving vital ecosystems.
