Electrifying beer transport in Sweden

The brewery group Carlsberg is getting serious about switching to electric transport in Sweden.
Around 10% of Carlsberg’s value-chain emissions stems from the transport of raw materials and the distribution of beer products to customers. Carlsberg is therefore exploring lower-carbon transport alternatives with the potential to deliver substantial emission reductions.
"I don’t think anyone will drive a diesel vehicle after 2030”, says Andreas Andersson, Head of Transportation at Carlsberg Sweden in a press statement.

The first brewery in Sweden to make the switch, Carlsberg started electrifying its heavy-duty freight operations in 2022. Carlsberg and @einride, a Swedish manufacturer of electric autonomous heavy vehicles, have now announced a joint expansion for the beginning of 2025 when eight trucks will be added to cover external flows.
“The transition from diesel to electric has been incredibly smooth and hassle-free for us. We’ve actually had fewer issues with our electric operations than with our diesel operations. We’ve become a prime example for the rest of the Carlsberg Group, which I’m very proud of. I don’t think anyone will drive a diesel vehicle after 2030”, says Andreas Andersson, Head of Transportation at Carlsberg Sweden in a press statement.

Carlsberg's switch to electric vehicles (EVs) for beer transport will significantly cut emissions by eliminating diesel use, reducing carbon footprint, and setting a sustainable example for the industry, advancing broader adoption of clean energy in logistics. More to follow?

@rosebellendiritu Definitely. I only wish this works so well that other organizations will have no option but to make the switch as well. One green success attracts more followers.
