Cooling the reservoir water is definitely good, but the impact of coverage by panels on dissolved oxygen levels also needs to be carefully monitored. Deoxygenated (anoxic) lake waters can potentially release methane produced by methanogenic microorganisms, depending on the water temperature and chemistry, the nutrient supply and the productivity of the aquatic ecosystem. Atmospheric oxygen is less soluble in warmer waters. Hopefully, in this case the water quality is good and the net environmental impact positive. All In all, though, this is quite a big perturbation, so I hope some limnologists are keeping an eye on it!
And together we've planted over 150,000 trees. One tree is planted for every climate review written to an organization that is Open for Climate Dialogue™.
