The Great Bubble Barrier uses bubbles to push plastic and other debris in rivers to the surface and collect it before it can reach the sea. Air is pumped from a tube at the bottom, stopping waste to cross the wall of bubbles at the surface while also using the flow of the water to guide it into a collector where it can be disposed properly. The system is developed by Scientists in the Netherlands and is already successfully used in Amsterdam. Hopefully this smart & relatively simple method can be used to clean and keep other waterways around the world free from plastic pollution. Great solution! A horrific ratio of 80% of wastewater is bring released infiltrered globally and lots of plastic is being picked up down-stream leading into the Ocean. While more pressure should be put on #juststopoil and #juststopplastic, we definitely need these easily deployable solutions! We would love to explore where we could deploy in Portugal and elsewhere in our global network. Let’s talk. No💚without💙

A wonderful idea capable of liberating our waterways and stop these nuisance called plastic from flowing into the oceans. We have many rivers and streams in major cities in Cameroon filled with waste plastics. We can try the bubbles.

Great idea. Minimal invasive. No waste produced. I really admire our Dutch neighbors for their rational creativity.
