Firefighters and workers from a transport company worked around the clock, using 20 trucks and seven excavators to remove the piles of dirt. The work was made difficult by the huge amount of flood water and unstable ground that kept sliding down the slopes.

On June 9, an Austrian Airlines passenger plane flying from Palma de Mallorca to Vienna was seriously damaged during the flight.

An Airbus A320 was seriously damaged by hail when it hit a "thunderstorm cell" while approaching the Austrian capital.

The pilots were caught off guard because the storm was not visible on weather radar. Large hail stones pierced the outer coating of the cockpit windows and damaged the nose of the plane.
