They make plastic… out of seaweed

Notpla is a Norwegian sustainable packaging start-up founded in 2014. They create packaging solutions made from other natural materials, such as seaweed and plants, as an alternative to single-use plastic. This packaging is 100% biodegradable and can be composted with the rest of the food waste, or even eaten. Their main product, Ooho, can be used to encapsulate a wide range of sauces, salad dressings, and condiments. ❓ Some facts about plastic pollution: * Plastic production increased exponentially, from 2.3 million tons in 1950 to 448 million tons by 2015. * Of this, nearly 40% is intended to be used as packaging, which means that it is destined for immediate disposal. * Of the total amount of plastics sent to landfills, 79% is transported to the oceans, less than 9% is recycled and 12% is incinerated. * Every year, about 8 million tons of plastic waste escapes into the oceans from coastal nations. * Most plastics end up in the environment, in the form of larger or smaller particles (microplastics) which have been found across the globe. * Nearly 700 species, including endangered ones, are known to have been affected by plastics. Nearly every species of seabird eats plastics. All of these make Notpla deserves its Climate Love even more.
