Big, bigger biggest: Swedish developer builds mega offshore wind farm
Swedish renewable energy developer OX2 has applied for a permit to build the largest offshore wind farm in the world. The project should arise in the Baltic Sea and have a capacity of no less than 5.5 gigawatts
For those in the know: Ørsted's Hornsea project (located in the North Sea) has a total capacity of 7.5 gigawatts, making it the largest offshore wind farm. The difference is that Hornsea consists of four separate wind farms. Aurora, as the OX2 wind farm will be called, will become one wind farm and will therefore be the largest of its kind.
Wind farm Aurora
Aurora will consist of 370 wind turbines, each with a maximum height of 370 meters, Electrek reports. That last figure is striking, because the tallest windmills currently on the market are made by MingYang Smart Energy and reach 'only' 264 meters high.
The intended electricity production of the Aurora wind farm is obvious: approximately 24 terawatt hours per year. That is enough to supply 5 million households with electricity and is equivalent to about 17 percent of Sweden's total electricity needs.
Construction of Aurora should start in 2028 and the project should be completed in 2030. The project involves a total investment of $18 billion.
Largest renewable energy projects
More large offshore wind farms are planned. For example, the Dogger Bank wind farm (expected to be completed in 2026) will have a capacity of 4.8 gigawatts off the British coast. For now, however, Aurora is the biggest, but the question is how long it will keep that title. After all, sustainable energy projects are sprouting like mushrooms.

OX2 knows too well that renewable energy is the solution to many climate change, economic and social related hiccups and so their drive to heavily invest on such projects is outstanding.

It's good, I wonder if the "Moderate" party will also go against this project, it seems that wind power has become their new obsession 🤡
