For enforcing accountability around the chemical disaster in eastern Ohio

After the train derailment and toxic chemical fire in Ohio, U.S., the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) authorities pledged to hold the train company accountable for exposing people and the environment to hazardous chemicals in the village of East Palestine. “We issued a notice of accountability to the company, and they’ve signed that, indicating that they will be responsible for the cleanup,” said EPA Administrator Michael S. Regan to CNN.
Beyond the actions taken to protect the population, like testing water and air and monitoring possible health issues, they continue the investigation of the disaster and the potential responsibilities of the company Norfolk Southern. “As new facts arise, let me just say, and be very clear, I will use the full enforcement authority of this agency, and so will the federal government, to be sure that this company is held accountable,” Regan added.
