Kenyans invade forests for charcoal after lifting of ban

Environment Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya claims that some people have started intruding on woods ten days after President William Ruto announced the government's plan to suspend a logging moratorium.
According to the CS, the intruders are renting out forest space and even burning charcoal, both of which are forbidden actions.

People need to be educated, we need more campaigns to educate them on the issues of protecting our forest and even planting more forest. We also need our leaders to have strict measures to protect our forest

It will be very difficult to control this having in mind that people will rush to various offices to get papers to permit them cut down trees(fraud).I think Ruto should have thought of this and source for more info from climate experts first.

This is absurd and unacceptable! Forests should be protected and this should be an initiative of each Kenyan if we want a safe climate

This was to be expected when the ban was lifted

The consequences of lifting the ban will be so dire and will shadow the protection and conservation efforts put in if proper management measures aren't put in place.
