It's reduced its carbon footprint by 29% – one extra step towards a carbon-neutral journalism

If there is a thing we love here on We Don't Have Time, it is companies that are transparent on their path to net zero and are doing something.
From 2019 to 2022, the carbon emissions of the Le Monde group, a French mass media company that publishes some of the most-read newspapers, fell from 41,374 tCO2e to 29,461 tCO2, a reduction of 29%.
It is still important to note that these numbers do not include all the Scope 3 emissions, especially the emissions linked to the electronic devices used by their users and readers. When included, Le Monde group's carbon footprint reaches 67,420 tCO2e, 60% corresponding to digital activity, and 28% paper/print activity. Quite high when you think about it, but I like that Le Monde is quite transparent. When Scope 3 emissions are integrated into companies' carbon footprint calculation, it makes one realize the importance of a global and cross-sector green transition.
Nonetheless, it is a good first step to make the world of journalism climate-neutral. Now, it is time to do better!
The Le Monde group has already set a 2025 reduction target, with actions to be implemented, such as moving towards data centers powered 100% by renewable energy, switching to a fleet of clean vehicles for newspaper delivery, etc.
I would also like to know what Le Monde has already implemented to reduce its carbon footprint. It would be good for other news and media companies to learn from it.

Transparency about their emissions and efforts to address them is commendable, especially in acknowledging Scope 3 emissions.
