France Bans Short Flights to Combat Climate Change
France has taken a significant step in the fight against climate change by prohibiting short domestic flights that can be covered by train within two-and-a-half hours. This groundbreaking measure is part of a climate law initiated in 2021.

Well, actually this is kind of fake news. Sadly, France did not ban domestic short-haul flights when train alternatives exist - France only did so for 3 flights—accounting for 2,5% of total domestic flights. The law specifies 5 criteria according to which flights can be banned. Those criteria are quite permissive, only 3 flights are forbidden (Orly-Nantes, Orly-Bordeaux, Orly-Lyon). And only from Paris Orly, not Paris Roissy. Only 2,5% were banned in reality. The measure's climate ambition is thus considerably reduced if not only symbolic...
