They illegally clear cut 25 hectares of a hundred-year-old oak forest

The French forestry company Alliance Forêts Bois cut down 25 hectares of deciduous forest with hundred-year-old oaks, including 2.5 hectares which are classified as a Natura 2000 protected area. This forest was illegally clear-cut, without any management plan, which is required for any forestry operation of more than 25 hectares.
The Landes de Gascogne Regional Park and the Syndicat d'aménagement du bassin versant du Ciron, a Natura 2000-listed watercourse running through the mountain, lodged a complaint with the PEFC label, to which Alliance Forêts Bois is certified. But the result of this complaint is disappointing: only one of the cooperative's local branches will be deprived of the PEFC label for three months. 3 months for cutting down hundred-year-old trees! How silly is this???
It is time to create laws and regulations on forestry and forest clear-cutting, and to stop this practice!

Forest clear-cutting causes lasting damage to ecosystems. Bird species lose their habitats, as do wood-eating insects and chiropterans. Animals, small mammals, fungi, and related plants are disrupted. Several studies show a decline in the flora and fauna of forest environments, that is partly explained by the homogenization of forests. 30% of forest insects depend on dead trees, and 40% of woodland birds need senescent trees... but these are ecosystems that do not exist in clear-cut plantations.
Also, after a clear-cut, the ground temperature can rise by more than 10 degrees. This is deadly for many species as well.

25 whole hectares a year? How saddening! Where is the government when all this is happening?

Wow... Sometimes we don't need to look too far to find environmental destruction and ecocide. They need to be brought to justice!!

This is alarming. Preserving and protecting our forests is crucial for the well-being of both local ecosystems and global efforts to combat climate change.

Deforestation is very bad and dangerous in environmental sustainability. We must ensure that this habit stops

Why would they be allowed to do that , clearly France needs to change its laws to protect its forest.

@phylis_akinyi The disruption leads to more extreme temperature swings that can be harmful to plants and animals.
