Climate warning

Senegal becomes an oil and gas producer, thank you Woodside Energy ⚠️

Senegal has now become a fossil fuel-producing country. Please give a round of applause to welcome Senegal into the bad guys' club 👿
On June 19, 2024, the Australian oil company Woodside Energy announced the beginning of oil and gas extraction in Sangomar, Senegal. This deepwater oil field aims to produce 100,000 barrels per day, which will be for export (mostly) and domestic consumption. This represents 43,000 tons of CO₂ (!), 43,000 tons of CO₂ while we need to reduce our emissions, 43,000 tons of CO₂ while the world already suffers from climate change.
In its press release, Woodside Energy stated that "the start of extraction from the Sangomar field marks the beginning of a new era, not only for our country's industry and economy". Mmmm, I wouldn't have called it "the beginning of a new era", as the interests of fossil fuel companies have dominated global politics and economics for the past hundred years. Instead, I would have called this era, the era of "we accelerate climate catastrophe and don't care about your future"!

Senegal administration should not fall victim by supporting fossil fuel activities.

It's sad to read from this company calling it "the beginning of an era" that's a very negative joke of the year, arrogant and full of ignorance too. I guess we need to educate them about the effects of climate change, as they are pretending they don't know how their actions will continue to impact Senegal’s infrastructure, food security and nutrition, health, productivity and economic growth, etc.

This is very concerning! This is a step backward, potentially aligning Senegal with the interests of the fossil fuel industry rather than prioritizing sustainable development⚠⚠

New oil production should be prohibited as the old ones come up with ways to end oil production.

Very shameful!! This is the negative effort that should be condemned for the safety of our future.
