Denouncing the oil propaganda into a new popular series

While watching your favourite TV show or film, have you ever noticed something was off? Why are they driving so many ICE cars? Why are they all cooking with gas stoves? Why do they smoke so much? 🤔
The new series Landman is set within the world of oilfields in West Texas, where billionaires are trying to get rich quickly in the oil business as oil rigs begin to dominate the state. In this hellscape, lead character, Tommy Norris, is trying to keep his company at the top.

In a monologue that has now become viral on social media, he shows a "dumb" city lawyer how she has been deceived by the green tech industry in believing that renewable energies are greener than oil and gas. And even though only this part has become viral, if I understand well, the rest of the series is more or less a long advertisement for the oil and gas industry, and it also even compares the impact of methane gas flares and cow burps with lithium batteries. The American Petroleum Institute got even involved as they thought that the series depicted the industry too negatively. 🤡

Our friends at Climate Town have dived into this series and looked closer at how this type of discourse and disinformation gets around the internet. Watch the video, it's as always very instructive and it will help you catch future cases of "sneaky" propaganda 👇
Have you ever noticed something similar in shows and films you have watched?

Thank you Climate Town for doing this great job! I just finished a conversation with an individual who was opposing wind turbines based on some of the arguments you mention in your episode 😉💚

The fact that the American Petroleum Institute got involved just proves how much influence Big Oil still has

The more people become aware, the harder it is for fossil fuel giants to manipulate public perception.

@rashid_kamau When people are informed, they can push for real change, and that makes all the difference in the fight for a sustainable future.

The oil propaganda in the media is a very concerning issue, as it shapes public perception and undermines the push for renewable energy. Awareness of such narratives is essential for informed decision-making.
