Dr. Vandana Shiva is an Indian scholar and environmental activist. Strongly committed to environmental movements, she worked on grassroots campaigns to prevent logging. She heavily criticizes the Green Revolution that she sees as responsible for pollution, the loss of indigenous seed diversity and traditional agricultural knowledge, and the dependence of farmers on chemicals and pesticides. As a response, she founded the Research Foundation for Science, Technology, and Natural Resource Policy (RFSTN), an organization devoted to developing sustainable methods of agriculture, in 1982. She is one of the emblematic figures of ecofeminism. She argues that "the marginalization of women and the destruction of biodiversity go hand in hand”, meaning that there is a twin domination of women and nature. Women are among the most vulnerable to and affected by climate change and environmental destruction, but also have a particular place in the conservation of biodiversity. For her work and activism, she deserves Climate Love 💚
