It's an understatement to say that plastic is everywhere. Almost everything you get at a supermarket is either packaged in or made from some kind of plastic. This makes Plastic Free July all the more challenging, but at the same time, necessary. Plastic bags have long been in the crosshairs of environmentalists; however, their usage keeps climbing. Despite plastic bag bans around the world, an estimated 10 billion plastic bags are used every week! Some get recycled, but countless go to landfills, blow in the wind, or find their way to our oceans.

It may not be possible to cut these 10 billion bags out of the global economy by yourself, but change doesn't appear from thin air either. Plastic Free July has impacted millions of people from around the globe, all thanks to actions as small as swapping to a reusable bag. You don't have to live entirely plastic free to start making a difference, but you can't make a difference without trying.
