PM wants to prevent panels on 58% of farmland

Liz Truss is facing a rebellion from Jacob Rees-Mogg’s business department over plans to ban solar power from most of England’s farmland. The prime minister and her environment secretary, Ranil Jayawardena, want to ban solar from about 41% of the land area of England, or about 58% of agricultural land, the Guardian revealed earlier this week. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/oct/13/liz-truss-on-collision-course-with-jacob-rees-mogg-over-solar-power-ban

This is really bad, leaders should be in front line in climate action, it is ironical

Some places are more suitable than others for solar and wind energy facilities. There is no need to sacrifice forests (which sequester carbon among other benefits) or productive farmland (we have to eat, right?) when there are plenty of parking lots, roof tops, mined land, and other more suitable locations for solar panels. Farms may be suitable locations for wind turbines, though (depending on local wind patterns, distance to existing transmission lines, and other siting factors).

Lizz is an idiot. It only took her about a month to enter the 100% climate warning list together with Donald Trump, Jairl Bolsonaro and other villians.

Perhaps they could look at putting it on rooftops and in areas which we would not be farming, but we must have solar panels wherever possible! Obviously we need to grow crops & graze animals. I just do not want her stopping all renewables which seems to be her remit from her fossil fuel and ERG backers! We must stop climate crisis & she is making it a lot worse!

This is really sad to see a leader of her stature display such kind ignorance

Surely. Has she been paid to sabotage progress on climate change solutions.
