Large quantities of rare earth metals have been discovered in northern Sweden by the Swedish mining company LKAB. The metals are used, among other things, to build electric cars and are therefore of great importance for the energy transition. This is the largest amount of rare metals in Europe.
Swedish Energy Minister Ebba Busch emphasized that extracting the found metals from the ground will play a key role in greening the world. According to the minister, Europe can play a pioneering role in this by reducing the emission of harmful substances on the one hand and at the same time improving its competitive position in relation to China in particular.
