Egypt is aiming to significantly boost its renewable energy targets, with the new goal set at 58% of energy generation from renewable sources by 2040. This update, announced by Electricity Minister Mohamed
Shaker, represents a substantial increase from the previous target of 42% by 2030. The updated strategy is expected to be published within the next two to three months, as Shaker mentioned during an Egypt-EU investment conference.
This ambitious plan underscores Egypt's commitment to expanding its green power infrastructure and aligning with global efforts to combat climate change. By setting higher targets, Egypt aims to attract more investment in renewable energy projects and technologies, fostering a sustainable and environmentally-friendly energy sector.
