Keir Starmer's government appoints Rachel Kyte as new Climate Envoy for UK

The UK has named Rachel Kyte, a professor at Oxford University, as its Special Representative for Climate, reaffirming its commitment to global climate leadership. Kyte, a seasoned expert in sustainable energy and climate policy, previously worked with the UN and World Bank and played a key role in the 2015 Paris Agreement. Her appointment comes ahead of COP29 in Azerbaijan and is a great sign from Starmer's government and in contrast to Rishi Sunak's government which had axed that role.
Rachel Kyte said: "This government is committed to reconnecting the UK to the world with climate action as a priority. And the world is being shaped politically and economically by climate change."
In addition, Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced a new investment facility aimed at mobilising billions from pension and insurance funds to finance climate projects. Managed by British International Investment, the facility seeks to attract private capital to support sustainability-focused projects in emerging markets.
