Developing off-grid solar-powered desalination solutions for remote communities

One-in-four people in the world do not have access to safe drinking water and climate change is making it worse with rising sea levels causing freshwater to become salty, eutrophication, droughts and more. The French company Mascara NT has developed different solar-powered solutions to solve the issue of access to drinking water that can be used by remote communities around the world. OSMOSUN® are unique sustainable desalination solutions providing low-cost drinking water everywhere, for everyone. For both sea and brackish water (read less salted water than seawater), reverse osmosis desalination OSMOSUN® units generate zero direct CO2 emissions in operation. Their Solar PV patented technology can be installed either fully off-grid in highly remote locations or as a grid-tied system. Their technology is already being used in different parts of the world and providing drinking water to remote communities in Mozambique, Mauritius Namibia and Somalia. Their most recent project is a program to secure access to drinking water in 6 remote island communities in Vanuatu in the Pacific. Where there will deliver 6 solar-powered desalination units in remote villages as resilient water access points, and 2 will be supplied as mobile solutions and intended as standalone back-ups for freshwater production in post-disaster emergency situations such as cyclones. A fantastic company that is helping communities adapt to climate change and working to reach SDG6. https://www.osmosun.com/en/ https://www.osmosun.com/en/mascara-launches-a-program-to-secure-access-to-drinking-water-in-6-remote-island-communities-in-vanuatu/
