Pixel Planet Today's post

Post 933: World Wildlife Day. The United Nations set aside today to celebrate our planet's plants and animals - and this year is focused on recovering key species for ecosystem restoration. A habitat isn't just a place that animals can call home, but somewhere that is directly affected by the animals within them. Take elephants - larger-than-life jungle gardeners. . Fact: Forests where elephants were present had 7 percent more above-ground biomass than similar forests without elephants. Elephants do provide tons of fertilizer in the form of manure, but they also trample competing plants. Just as small brushfires have a positive environmental impact on forest health, elephants help thin out dense jungle to help the remaining plants grow better. . .
