Remote Control Car Race on the Moon - What's the Point?

Moon Mark is planning to have a remote control car race competition on Moon. They will be sending cars to the moon which 2 teams will control from earth in a car race. Just imagine the amount of emissions that it would require to prepare for this idea and then lauch it. What kind of idea is it? What is the point of such activity - Another step towrda space/moon pollution? Ms Hagy, Founder & CEO of Moon Mark should know that this is not the kind of thought leadership our planet requires now. Enlighten me if I am wrong! Read & Condemn: https://moonmark.space/moon-mark-and-intuitive-machines-partner-to-launch-first-ever-race-on-the-moon/ Photo: Capture from above URL

Thank you to everyone at We Don't Have Time. At Moon Mark, we could not be more in agreement with your mission, which should be the common goal of all humans and organizations. While the news of the 2021 race on the Moon has gained global attention, kindly let me share the "Why?" of our purpose. We created a race on the Moon to: - Create a unifying experience that all humans can enjoy and remember forever. From birth, every human has experienced the Moon. - Inspire students from around the world, aged 13-18, to dream big in a collective, positive goal, and realize they all can achieve their personal aspirations. By giving the students access to space in this way, we give them a lasting impression of the importance of human exploration for future progress. The underlying narrative is that these goals must serve humanity's best attributes. - Engage students in this age group to understand they will become stewards of space commercialization, and that their decisions will impact the future of humanity. - Make Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics key career pathways for students. A race on the Moon cannot happen without skills and application of all these disciplines. - Underscore how all of Moon Mark's messages must promote personal accountability for decisions to save our Earth, and preserve peace as we explore space. - Leave a scientific legacy once the race is complete. In 2021, the scientific mission of the racers will set a new standard for geo-mapping the lunar surface for sustainable exploration, with longevity of 30 years or more. We believe humans at this age, in this moment, given the opportunity, can change the course of history. Our intent is to enable a global collective thought direction that is unifying. The Art in our mission is to enable young people to learn about and create new methods for civil discourse that are intended to promote peace, on Earth and in space. We want to connect all audiences in this thought direction by enabling two human motivations: exploration and competition. All people will cheer their team to "win" a race on the Moon while knowing that all students who participated have earned progress in their own lives. And perhaps, they may reveal ways to save Earth. Moon Mark thanks We Don't Have Time for its work to inform and engage people in the crucial solutions to save our planet from climate change. We believe young people have the best chance to create those solutions, sooner rather than later. Sincerely, Mary L. Hagy Founder, CEO Moon Mark

Good point but let’s not spoil their fun, there are bigger fish to fry. Space experimentation has brought us some very useful tools so far in the fight for climate, let them be creative on the moon, it’s not doing too much damage. The space industry produces quite a minuscule carbon footprint when you compare it to commercial air travel and the even more polluting ground transportation.

I agree that we have bigger fishes to fry but sometimes I prefer to be vegetarian or vegan and fry some vegetables 😊 I am not against fun and never intend to deprive people from little pleasures of life but at the same time I believe in freezing the growing monster in its tracks.

@joel_courtidis_160 😂 this is a better idiom particularly when we are talking about reducing meat consumption

I think they motivate it by saying that it drives development forward. But I agree with your skepticism. We are in the middle of a planetary crisis and this is what people put their money and time into?
