Namibia calls for bold African response to climate change

The Namibian government has called on African leaders to present a bold and unified response to climate change and its adverse effects. During the opening ceremony of the Tenth Annual Conference on Climate Change and Development in Africa in Windhoek, Minister of Mines and Energy Tom Alweendo called on the continent to synergise actions for a collective and bold response to the various challenges posed. he said that climate change threatens the communities, ecosystems and economies of the continent, and jeopardises the aspirations of Agenda 2063. According to him, it is imperative to respond through a collective and bold approach to these many challenges: “We must work together, both in Africa and with our international partners, not only to address the threats posed by climate change, but also to seize the opportunities for a just transition, inclusive and equitable towards an African green economy.” Read more
