Tanzania To Start Drilling Geothermal Wells This Month

Tanzania will start drilling geothermal wells this month to determine the available geothermal resources before beginning power generation. The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy in Tanzania , Dr Doto Biteko, revealed this after visiting geothermal power sources and plants in Naivasha Town, Nakuru County, Kenya. “We have visited the geothermal power plants owned by the Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) and have seen the progress they have made in developing this resource, as they are currently generating over 799 megawatts of geothermal power,” said Dr Biteko https://dailynews.co.tz/tanzania-to-commence-geothermal-project-this-month/

With the availability of Geothermal gas in East Africa, it is a surprise it has taken Tanzania a while to adopt this strategy. Hopefully the project will be well managed to inject much needed power to the Tanzanian national grid.

@george_kariuki with our goals aligned, it comes as no surprise that these countries would be sharing expertise in fields as energy, agriculture and transport. I'd like to see them extend this goodwill to sharing renewable energy projects as well

@princess_nel_268 The onset of this project should also pave way for more renewable energy projects in Tanzania and in East Africa especially through the Jumuiya ya Afrika Mashariki collaboration.

@felix_mokaya I have to agree, Kenya has been using Geothermal power off years now and it is something admirable by their neighbours who would like to emulate the success of the Kenyans in Geothermal energy.
